After teaching watercolor for over 20 years I have developed a method that has assisted hundreds of students to grow not only in their craftsmanship but also how to develop as fine artists, many of whom have gone on to become well known professional artists.
Although almost all my students begin with a desire to gain skill with this beautiful medium we also discuss at length what makes one painting better than another.
We begin each lesson with a discussion of a particular technical skill such as controlling watercolor washes or keeping our paintings fresh and "clean". We discuss light and shadows and how to strengthen our drawing skills, better ways to mix colors, the selection of materials, and some good ways to think about design etc. etc. Each class will include a demonstration of the technique by the teacher and then discussed with personal assistance and encouragement to each student. Although we're serious about getting better (including the instructor) we laugh a lot because if we're not having fun along the way why bother? Every serious artist will tell you that we are "students" our entire lives and I am no exception for we never "know it all". My job as I see it, is to tell someone how to save lots of time by avoiding all the mistakes I've made and also teach the best solutions I've found so far.
Many products today proudly announce whats NOT in them so let me be candid and tell you what these classes are not. They are not designed so you will make some cutesy little craft or some happy accidents with paint. (You most likely will go home with a couple of nice paintings but you will earn every success) Everyone starts somewhere so if the class offered says beginner to intermediate, beginners are gong to benefit the most, because they will learn the most. As class dates and schedules are decided on feel free to contact below about materials or any questions. This site will also be available for weather cancels and updated from time to time.
